If the only exercise you’ve been getting is by scrolling through Instagram (#fitspiration) in a failed attempt to motivate yourself to hit the gym, we recommend trying a new approach. With a variety of classes – from aerial yoga and dance-based routines to MMA bootcamps – these fitness studios around Mumbai offer alternate – and fun – ways to get some exercise without making it feel like a chore.
Tangerine Arts Studio, Bandra
This multidisciplinary studio offers a variety of programmes, some more fitness-centric and others which incorporate elements of performing arts. With warm wooden flooring and windowpanes that overlook greenery and allow plenty of sunlight to filter through, the space is inviting and relaxing, making it the perfect spot to take care of both, your physical and emotional well-being.
Their current roster of classes includes hatha, ashtanga and power yoga, Zumba, belly dancing and bollywood dance. We recommend switching things up and signing up for the aerial yoga class (live your dreams of joining Cirque du Soleil!) or yoga dance that will burn calories and keep you limber. If you’re looking for a more traditional workout, their Contemporary Conditioning and Body Balance and Mobility classes will strengthen your core muscles, while Boot’ique by Uma Kothari offers a comprehensive full-body workout through a combination of Pilates, calisthenics, kettlebells, TRX, barefoot training, foam rolling and trigger point release. You have the option of taking a session before committing to a class, but prior registration is mandatory. They also offer personal training on request. Their regular schedule changes monthly, while weekends bring a host of fun one-off workshops – past ones have included bartending, nutrition, meditation and even hula hooping!

For those looking for a break from everyday chaos, their Intuitive Yoga and Movement Therapy and Chakra Healing hits the spot. Cindy’s Bootcamp – a unique fitness programme created by celebrity trainer and former ballerina Cindy Jourdain – on the other hand, will whip you into shape in quick time with a rigourous combination of HIIT and Functional Training with exercises designed to improve posture, mobility, flexibility, endurance and muscular strength. Taking things up a notch, is Cindy’s Muay Thai Bootcamp that combines elements of crossfit, Muay Thai, yoga and dance.
