The NCPA, Mumbai, in association with Seventh Art Productions (UK), presents a series of three documentary screenings featuring the works and lives of the world’s most distinguished artists that include Francisco Goya, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Claude Monet and his contemporaries.
The series begins with Goya: Visions of Flesh and Blood, a cinematic tour de force that provides a fascinating portrait of the painter and his world through extensive location footage, his revealing letters and a unique exhibition of masterpieces.
The next screening, Renoir: Revered and Reviled is a fresh new biography of the impressionist. Based on the remarkable collection of 181 Renoirs at the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia, the documentary examines the direction he took and why his work provokes such extreme reactions even today.
The screenings will conclude with Painting the Modern Garden: Monet to Matisse. This documentary will take viewers on a journey to discover how different contemporaries of Monet – like Van Gogh, Bonnard, Pissarro and Matisse – all saw the garden as a powerful subject for their art. Featuring passionate curators, artists and garden enthusiasts, it will reveal the rise of the modern garden in popular culture and the public’s enduring fascination with gardens today.
