Kaitlyn’s Beer Garden, Bandra: First Look

The suburbs of Andheri dominate the craft beer scene with brewpubs such as Brewbot, Woodside and Pump Room making their way to the area. As for Bandra, the only place for beer lovers to flock to is the Taproom by Doolally, which gets too crowded post work hours. But last night, we dropped by at a two-day old bar off Hill Road that’s trying to bring in the true German Beer Garden Tradition to Mumbai. Meet Kaitlyn’s Beer Garden. AMBIENCE Located on the busy Hill Road in Bandra, Kaitlyn’s is housed inside the same building as the newly opened Basilico and a flight above a pocket friendly fast food joint. The entrance is decorated with faux grass to add a garden-like feel to the space. The interiors look humble with gray cement walls and bench-like wooden sitting with each pillar in the space being made to look like a tree with branches reaching the roof. Thanks to French windows on three sides, you can expect the place to look bright with light seeping through the tree shaped pillars during the day and a different energy post sundown. FOOD + DRINKS While the name sounds bold and builds up the excitement, the menu is rather limited at this point. Just like the other breweries in the city, this too are awaiting an approval for serving their in-house craft. While the licenses are brewing, Brewbot is filling the vats with four of their hot selling beers. Currently, they have on tap the Botwork Orange (Rs 250) – a Belgian Wit with zesty notes; Floating Head (Rs 250) that is a Hefeweizen with strong banana and clove hints, and Mojo Raising (Rs 250) – this Midwestern Pale Ale is a bit hoppy with a beautiful amber tone. Our favourite though was the full-bodied stout Black Mamba (Rs 250) with end notes of chocolate. The food menu is simple with dishes that we would usually opt for while drinking with a mix of comfort cuisines like Indian, Oriental and European. We started off with messy Chicken Wings (Rs 200 for 6 pieces) doused in barbeque sauce. They are also available in Hot Garlic, Peri Peri and Honey Chilli. Kaitlyn’s Beer Garden Special Pizza (Rs 175) is a perfect sharing platter as well. The cheesy pizza is fuss free and comes in vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, but if you’d rather opt for something substantial, then we suggest the hearty / greasy Chicken Szechwan Fried Rice (Rs 265) that can be paired with your Belgium wit and will soak up all the booze. IN A NUTSHELL WH Verdict: A frothy new entrant.                                              Meal For Two: Rs 1,800 Timings: Noon to 1 am Follow them on Facebook or Instagram  **The writer was invited by the bar to preview their menu**
